The Importance of Drinking Water

Hi guys, I'm back. As the tittle, I wanna tell you guys about the importance of drinking water.

The benefits of drinking water are not trivial, as many people think. The benefits of drinking water are to prevent dehydration of the body, maintain skin freshness, protect nerves and body tissues, and support muscles and joints.

Other types of drinks, such as soft drinks, are high in sugar and calories, so they can increase your weight. Energy drinks that are often chosen as a source of fluids must also be considered, because they contain sugar and caffeine. Likewise with packaged fruit juices, always pay attention to the product label before consuming them.

Water that is free of calories and sugar is the healthiest choice to keep your body well hydrated and to get rid of thirst at any time. In addition, the benefits of drinking water are also enjoyed by various body functions, including:

1. Maintain body fluid levels or prevent dehydration, so that the body does not experience disturbances in digestive function (constipation) and food absorption, circulation, kidneys, and is important in maintaining a normal body temperature.

2. Helps energize muscles and lubricates joints to keep them supple. Fluid imbalance can lead to muscle fatigue.

3. Helps control the body's calorie intake. Drinking water is much better at preventing weight gain than drinks that are high in calories.

4. Maintains skin freshness by shrinking pores, moisturizing, and increasing skin firmness.

Protects the spinal cord and other sensitive tissues in the body.

5. Helping the process of removing food and drink debris through sweat, urine and feces.

6. Drinking lots of water can also be used as a blood urine medication due to minor urinary tract infections or small urinary tract stones.

What is the normal dose so that you don't run out of fluids?

Each person's fluid needs are different. For adults, the recommended consumption of water is about eight 230 ml glasses per day or a total of 2 liters.

Apart from drinks, food can also provide fluid intake to the body, which is about 20%. Liquids from food are mainly obtained from fruits and vegetables, for example spinach and watermelon which contain 90% water.

To find out if the body lacks fluids is fairly easy. The initial signs that are generally felt when a person is dehydrated is feeling thirsty and the urine is darker than usual.

Other symptoms that may also be felt when the body is not properly hydrated include feeling dizzy, headache, dry mouth, lips, and eyes, urinating with infrequent amounts and intensity, lack of energy, and fatigue.

No less important, it is necessary to pay attention to several special conditions and activities that make the body need more water intake than usual, including:

1. Exercise or be physically active.

2. Have fever, diarrhea or vomiting.

3. Very hot weather.

4. Pregnant and breastfeeding. Pregnant women are advised to consume about 2.4 liters of water a day, while women who are breastfeeding are advised to consume about 3.1 liters of water per day

There are several tips that can be done to get the benefits of drinking water as described above, namely:

1. Try to get in the habit of drinking water at every meal or when eating snacks.

2. Provide a glass or bottle of drinking water on the table or bag that you carry with you during your daily activities. That way, you will remember to eat it.

3. You can add flavor to plain water to make it taste better. One of them is by adding fruit slices, such as in infused water drinks.

4. Try consuming sparkling water if you are bored with plain water. Make sure that sparkling water does not contain citric acid, sodium, sugar, and artificial sweeteners.

There are several provisions for drinking water that is safe for consumption according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, namely water that has no taste, smell or color, does not contain bacteria, and does not contain chemicals exceeding the permitted limits.

Do not forget to also ensure that drinking water is suitable for consumption and meets health standards, in order to avoid diseases caused by drinking contaminated water.
